ACIERA

ACIERA
ACIERA (Alianza Cristiana de Iglesias Evangélicas de la República Argentina, Christian Alliance of Evangelical Churches of the Argentine Republic) is the largest and most politically influential Evangelical umbrella organization in Argentina, claiming to represent over 15,000 churches nationwide.

Established in 1982, during the final years of the country’s last military dictatorship, ACIERA emerged as a vehicle for institutionalizing Evangelical influence within Argentina’s evolving democratic landscape.

The group’s growing political clout is exemplified by Nadia Márquez, daughter of ACIERA vice president Hugo Márquez, who currently serves as a deputy in President Javier Milei’s La Libertad Avanza party. Following Milei’s electoral victory, Hugo Márquez published a widely circulated article denouncing the alleged corruption of previous governments and praising the new administration as a return to “the culture of work and effort.”

ACIERA has also leveraged its alliance with the Milei government to secure symbolic yet ideologically significant gains. It successfully lobbied for the official recognition of October 31st—the date commemorating Martin Luther’s nailing of the 95 Theses—as the National Day of Evangelical and Protestant Churches. The first celebration of the holiday was held at the Palacio Libertad, a major cultural venue in Buenos Aires, and was attended by Vice President Victoria Villarruel, among others.
