Carlos Diego Mesa Gisbert also held a number of positions including Official Representative of Bolivia for the Maritime Claim. Mesa also ran as a presidential candidate in 2019 and 2020.
During the 2019 election, Mesa spurred on false claims of fraud used to depose President Evo Morales saying there was “un fraude gigantesco en marcha” and later that the election produced a “resultado tergiversado y amañado.”
In 2020 due to the annulment of the 2019 election due to alleged electoral fraud, Mesa ran again as a candidate in the 2020 presidential elections and lost to now-president Luis Arce from the MAS.
