The original project quickly gained traction during Spain’s lockdowns for promoting conspiracy theories, ultranationalist narratives, and inflammatory content targeting perceived enemies of the Spanish right.
Marketed as an alternative to so-called censored mainstream media, EDA TV blends sensationalist news, ideological commentary, and propaganda in a style reminiscent of U.S. outlets like One America News Network. In the article announcing the platform’s launch, Negre cast himself as a victim of political persecution, writing that he had been “under constant media criminalization, judicial threats, arbitrary shutdowns of the channel, and even physical assaults against collaborators. The latest milestone in this persecution was the demonetization of the channel in order to eliminate Estado de Alarma through economic suffocation.” Although EDA TV claims editorial independence, it has received financial backing from conservative regional governments in Spain.
The outlet consistently promotes anti-immigrant, anti-feminist, and anti-leftist narratives, regularly featuring figures from Vox and the Partido Popular. It also played a significant role in the rise of far-right influencer Alvise Pérez, who used platforms like EDA TV to build his public profile before winning a seat in the European Parliament with his movement Se Acabó la Fiesta.
EDA TV has been denounced by Spain’s Arbitration, Complaints and Journalism Ethics Commission for violating journalistic standards. In one notable case, the outlet implied that the center-left Transport Minister had attended a concert with another woman—who was later revealed to be the minister’s daughter. The platform has faced fines and widespread criticism for this and other instances of misinformation and sensationalist content that blur the line between journalism and far-right agitation.
Despite these controversies and repeated ethical violations, EDA TV remains a prominent player in Spain’s far-right media ecosystem, contributing to the normalization of reactionary discourse through a hybrid of tabloid-style reporting, political provocation, and influencer-driven outreach.
