He is also co-chairman of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group in the European Parliament, representing parties such as the Swedish Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna) a party of white nationalist origins, the neofascist Brothers of Italy (Fratelli d'Italia) and the Polish national conservative Law and Justice Party (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość).
Tertscht regularly defends reactionaries, neo-fascists, and the far-right across the world while inciting vicious, mendacious rhetoric. Regarding Podemos founders Pablo Iglesias and Carlos Monedero, Hermann Tertscht said on Telemadrid: “Si vuelven las condiciones que ellos consideran necesarias para matar a gente, matarían a gente. Y matarán a gente, si tienen posibilidad de matar a gente y matarla gratis, porque están en el poder o porque están cerca del poder o porque el poder les protege. Matarán a gente también por cuestiones políticas, ellos. No me cabe la menor duda.” Tertscht was also convicted of defaming Iglesias’ grandfather as a murderer.
Tertscht defends the colonization and genocide of Indigenous peoples in the Americas, writing: “La conquista de México fue una genial e increíble gesta española que abre una de las páginas más luminosas de la historia de la Humanidad: el descubrimiento y la incorporación de América a España.”
