Javier Milei

Javier Milei
(1970–present) Current President of Argentina and former member of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies.

Milei is associated with the international right-wing Atlas Network, and before he entered politics, he was an economist and financial advisor for several international banking institutions. He began his political career as a flamboyant TV personality, where he mixed advocacy for extreme libertarian economics and politics with violent, insulting rhetoric. Like Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro, this won him massive media coverage which catapulted him to the spotlight. This combined with a unique political crisis won him the 2023 Argentine presidential election.

An avowed anarcho-capitalist, Milei’s politics hold that the state shouldn’t intervene in individuals’ lives at all. In practice, to govern he has made a bargain with Argentina’s extreme right-wing, with a legacy of authoritarianism and conservative Catholicism.

In recent months he has been networking on the international right, working with Spain’s VOX Party and speaking at the US right-wing’s CPAC.
