Egan is the publisher of several right-wing English-language publications associated with the Viktor Orbán government. These include Remix News, Transylvania Now, and Brussels Signal.

Egan spent his early career working for various government or pseudo-government affiliated organizations in Eastern Europe, including USAID, Freedom House, NATO, and the International Republican Institute. His wife, Klara Vizer Egan, was nominated by the Hungarian Democratic Forum, KDNP, and Fidesz-KDNP for 2002, 2006, and 2010 municipal elections respectively.

While it is difficult to pinpoint precisely when Egan became involved with Fidesz, he was working for the party when Fidesz achieved a two-thirds majority during the 2010 parliamentary elections. After the election, he founded a consultancy, FWD Affairs, whose clients include the European People’s Party , the German Christian Social Union, the French Union for a Popular Movement and the Polish Civic Platform, among others. FWD Affairs has also provided international communication services for the Orbán government.
