Born in 1966, and raised in Budapest, Deutsch is a lawyer by training and became involved in the István Bibó Circle of Law Students in 1987, which became the founding nucleus for Fidesz. He was elected to parliament in the 1990 election, being placed 12th on Fidesz’s list. He would hold that position until 2009 when he was elected as a member of the European Parliament. During Deutsch’s time in the European Parliament, he gained notoriety after being expelled from the European People’s Party for comparing the group’s leader, Manfred Weber, to the Gestapo.

Deutsch continues to play a key role in many of Fidesz's campaigns, having served as vice president of the party and of Hungarian parliament.
