Tucker Carlson, once a major television personality in the United States, has reinvented himself as a right-wing influencer and media personality throughout the world.
Carlson was formerly the host of conservative Fox News’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” which was the network’s most-watched program. His show prominently featured racist, sexist, and otherwise conservative perspectives, and was a major part of promoting claims that the United States had experienced widespread election fraud during the 2020 Presidential election.
In 2023, Carlson was fired from his position and his show was canceled. Many speculated that it was due to Fox News losing a lawsuit against a voting equipment manufacturer over false accusations aired on his show about their mismanagement, and other workplace issues. Since then, Clarson has repositioned himself as an independent journalist with an international right-wing beat. He’s interviewed and made connections with the Bolsonaro family, Argentina’s President Milei, Hungary’s Victor Orban, and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. Speaking with Carlson, or being seen at or supporting a rally, has become a symbol of prominence in international right-wing politics, gaining Carlson increased attention outside the US despite a decline in domestic media coverage.
