A long-term Democratic Party consultant, Plouffe leveraged his political connections to conduct lobbying efforts for Uber, as revealed in the 2022 Uber Files leak.
When Uber’s Paris office was raided for illegal operations, Plouffe was copied on an email thread discussing the ‘kill-switch’ protocol, which cuts access to sensitive data in computer systems. In response to the raid, Plouffe wrote, “They report to Macron, correct?”. In a 2016 speech, he said, “We’ve seen some violence around the world, but that usually ends up expediting regulatory engagement with the government.”
More recently, Plouffe served as senior advisor to Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign. He is also part of the Senior Advisors team at Ergo, a CIA- linked intelligence firm which was hired by Uber to investigate union politics in Seattle and the plaintiffs and lawyers of a New York lawsuit against the company.
