The Bharatiya Janata Party (and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh)

The Bharatiya Janata Party (and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh)
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a political party in India and one of the two major Indian political parties alongside the Indian National Congress.

Since 2014, it has been the ruling political party in India under the incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since coming to power, the BJP government has enacted several priorities of the Hindutva agenda — including criminalising the practice of triple talaq, revoking Article 370 of the Indian constitution which granted autonomy to Jammu and Kashmir, and also abrogating its statehood. India has experienced nationwide democratic backsliding under the BJP's rule since 2014.

The BJP has close ideological and organisational links to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, an Indian right-wing, Hindu nationalist, volunteer paramilitary organisation. It is the progenitor and leader of a large body of organisations called the Sangh Parivar (Sangh family) and is responsible for having developed and promoted the Hindutva ideology at a large scale. It is also the world's largest far-right organisation by membership.
